Old Faithful Green Smoothie

It had been a few weeks of mixing up my green smoothie ingredients. Since peaches, plums, pluots and nectarines are in season they were filling in for my fruit in my morning green smoothies. We didn't make it to the Farmer's Market on Sunday, so we were forced to make a Whole Foods run for some green smoothie ingredients.

When the mixture of kale, Fuji apples and bananas hit my lips I was reminded of how this all began and why I love green smoothies so much. This is my favorite combination of ingredients. They provide the perfect consistency and sweetness for my taste :)

The Quick
What: Old Faithful Green Smoothie
When: Breakfast or any time
How: 1 serving
1 small head of kale (6 - 8 pieces)
1 apple
1 banana
Optional: some raisins or dates to add sweetness

Mung Bean Sprout Smoothie

Mung Beans Before Sprouting

My roommate, Max, asked me if I wanted to try a Mung Bean smoothie he whipped up and it was delicious! I was hesitant at first, but was pleasantly surprised at how refreshing it was. The smoothie contained 1c sprouted mung beans, 1 chopped un-peeled small cucumber, covered with water and ice. I drank it so quickly that I didn't even get a chance to take a photo. I feel a great boost of energy from all the nutrients and enzymes that were in the smoothie.

Max doesn't like to combine fruit with his vegetables and legumes like Viktoria Boutanko and myself do. He doesn't like to combine because of the potential loss of nutrients during digestion with the competing foods. I need to do more research on this and I will post later :)

My smoothie recipe, which is sweeter for 1 person typically contains 1 head of kale, 1 banana, 1 apple, water, ice and some raisins. Mine tastes sweeter, but Max's Mung Bean Smoothie was quite refreshing and left me feeling energized. I will make this again!

This smoothie is 100% raw and FULL of enzymes. Don't let it sit too long to ensure that you get the full benefit of the enzymes from the live food.

Benefits of Mung Beans:

• protein
• vitamin C
• folic acid or folate
• iron
• zinc• potassium
• magnesium
• copper
• manganese
• phosphorus
• thiamine

Mung beans are also high in fibre, low in saturated fat, low in sodium, and contain no cholesterol.  Because of the wide range of nutrients contained in mung beans, they offer a whole host of health benefits for the immune system, the metabolism, the heart and other organs, cell growth, protection against free radicals, and diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

The Quick & Easy:
What: Sprouted Mung Bean and Cucumber Smoothie

Wednesday Meditation in Santa Clara

50 people, 1 hour of silent meditation, 1 hour of guided discussion and authentic vegetarian Indian Dinner all for FREE every Wednesday at 7pm. There are even carpools that head down for those in SF or the East Bay.  I know this sounds like a dream, but I promise it isn't. All experience levels are welcome.

Wednesday we discussed a passage by Adyashanti entitled Rest and Be Taken. The word rest can be replaced by 'un-attach' and be taken. As soon as I release my attachment to a desired outcome the result is even better than what I had initially desired.

The Quick:
